guitar amplifier “Studiotone XL” class A, 40W head, with FS
In classic cooking tradition, the big brother of the Studiotone 20 Heads sounds much bigger and has more features than you would expect from its small appearance. Starting with four EL84 power amplifier tubes in Class A, a redesigned housing, three foot-switchable channels and two powerful voicing switches, the Koch Studiotone XL sound is reminiscent of the British tube amplifiers of the 60s. The three channels (Clean, Overdrive & Overdrive+, all with their own volume control) take you from round, warm tones to rich EL84 overdrive & compression. The 2-way “Mid Shift” switch allows you to raise the mid-range frequencies by 800 Hz and the 3-way “Bright” switch allows you to lower or amplify the high frequencies to fine-tune the upper end. However, some surprises can be found on the back. A serial effects loop, a recording output with “microphone placement” and speaker simulators, two line outputs (one unfiltered and one low level) and one “headphone out” jack. 4, 8, and 16 ohm speaker outputs allow for any combination of speakers, and the built-in Power Soak and speaker on/off switch allow the amplifier to play while the speaker is off for recording or headphones. A spring reverb gives the Koch Studiotone the richness in sound that you would expect from a classic tube amp.
